Providing tax, accounting and CFO services to individuals and businesses in the health care/medical and insurance fields, Wicks Emmett LLP managing partner Chuck Chappell has built his decades-long practice on trust and integrity. He places a high value on the relationships he has developed with his clients.

“I’m here as a servant for these people; it’s part of my faith,” he said. “I want my clients to have the best financial success possible, and I do whatever I can to make that happen.”

Before joining the firm in 1989, the Roseburg High School graduate attended Umpqua Community College and Oregon State University. Chuck returned to the area after four years of work for a national accounting firm in Eugene. He became a partner at Wicks Emmett LLP in 1991 and has since expanded his professional repertoire to include business valuation and consulting.

“Business valuation involves analyzing the business overall, and looking at how profitable it is and how to make it more profitable,” said Chuck, who is licensed as a certified public accountant and certified valuation analyst. “I see myself as more of a business consultant, and tax planning and preparation are byproducts of that.”

He’s proud to work with a firm that provides a wide spectrum of services. Two years ago, Wicks Emmett affiliated with RSM Global’s Firm Foundation Program, a worldwide organization of accountants with niche specialties. That relationship, he said, allowed the firm to provide even more expertise to clients.

“If a client has a very technical issue, we have a resource now where we can locate the expertise,” Chuck explained. “It’s seamless for our clients. They don’t have to travel to Portland or Seattle to get the work done. They can have it done here.”

Chuck appreciates seasonal, cyclical nuances of his profession. “We have seasons,” he said. “During busy season, which starts in the fall, I meet with my clients and get a chance to reconnect with them, see what they’re up to, how they’re doing and how I can help them.”

Once busy season passes, Chuck spends his free time playing golf, cycling, participating in church activities and relaxing with his wife, Gloria, and three adult children.
