With a focus on business valuation and litigation support, David McGinnis offers a full range of accounting and tax preparation services to individuals, corporations and partnerships. The longtime Douglas County resident assists his clients with whatever their needs may be.
“When people come in here or when attorneys call and ask questions, it’s because they need help,” he said. “The most rewarding part of my job is seeing good outcomes for people, whether it’s getting a refund back from the government, avoiding a sticky situation or helping justice be done.”
Over the past 10 years, David has honed his professional skill set. He graduated from Brigham Young University Idaho with a degree in accounting in 2005 and joined Wicks Emmett LLP’s professional staff later that year. While working full time, David earned his master’s degree in accountancy in 2006, passed the CPA exam in 2007, became a licensed CPA in 2008, became accredited in business valuation in 2009, became certified in financial forensics in 2010 and, in 2015, was named a principal with the firm.
“My experiences have helped me understand that in a community like ours, we need to help each other,” David said. “We all face difficult obstacles; I just hope that I can help some with theirs. That desire has driven me to be better educated and prepared to provide the services our community needs.”
David actively volunteers the Roseburg community, too. He has been involved with the Kiwanis Club for the past five years, and he’s transitioning into the role of advisor for Roseburg High School’s Key Club, which the Kiwanis Club sponsors. He is also a Boy Scout leader and serves at his church, where he prepares the weekly bulletin and works with the youth and young adults.
David’s down time centers on his family. Married for 14 years, his wife, Cindy, and eight kids – aged 2 through 12 – enjoy exercising, hiking, hunting, spending time outdoors, sewing and doing handicrafts. Their dream is to buy a house with a farm and a well-equipped woodworking shop, David said.
“We want to plant some fruit trees, raise sheep and chickens, maybe some goats, but no pigs,” he said. “And I would love to get into carpentry work and make something out of nothing, like a chair or table.”
