Fun fact: Dave’s favorite volunteer activity was working with the Roseburg Sister City program, “building goodwill between people,” he says.
Although he has 40 years in the business, Dave Emmett didn’t start out in accounting. A native of Tacoma, Dave’s background includes a stint in the Navy, graduation from electronics school and work for the phone company.
Dave discovered accounting after deciding to go back to school, and he graduated from Portland State University in 1969. After working in Portland and McMinnville, Dave moved to Roseburg in 1974 to open his own accounting firm. “It’s a great place to raise kids,” he says, and that’s what he and his wife, Judy, did—five of them. In the fall of 1999, his firm merged with Wicks Hatfield Chappell.
These days, Dave focuses on tax planning and tax-return preparation. “The most gratifying part of my job,” he says, “is to watch people accept the plan you made for them and have it succeed.”
Dave has a long history of community involvement. He helped found Timber Community Bank in 1979 and has served as president or chair of many organizations, including the Roseburg Visitors and Convention Bureau, and Mercy Foundation. He was a longtime member of North Roseburg Rotary.
Dave and his wife enjoy traveling and visiting their grandchildren and two great-grands. He also spends a lot of time bird hunting and boating. “I love going where you can feel the wind in your face,” he says.
